Taxes on
hotels, tourism to be minimised

The President of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf, has given directions to
streamlines taxes
on hotel and
tourism industry to give boost to the tourism. This was stated by the
Minister for Tourism and Culture, Colonel S.K. Tressler (Retd) in an
interview with Radio Pakistan. Speaking in relation to the World Tourism Day
being observed today, the minister said taxes on hotels and tourism industry
would be minimised to attract investment in the sector.
Colonel Tressler said the government was making endeavours to develop the
tourism infrastructure. He said visa restrictions on tourists have already
been eased and they are now issued visas on their arrival in the country.
The minister disclosed that Korea was considering declaring Pakistan as a
destination for religious tourism for Buddhists. He said a delegation from
Pakistan would soon visit Korea to sort out details for the purpose. He said
this is follow up of the International Tourism Conference held in Hunza in
June this year which was participated by monks from Korea as well.
The minister said he himself and other officials of the ministry and PTDC
would be interact with fellow organisation in forthcoming tourism events to
be held in different regions of the world.
